Is Ukraine is a nazi state?
No, Ukraine is not a Nazi state.
Ideology
To claim that a country is a Nazi state, the state should have a Nazi or neo-Nazi ideology, which Ukraine doesn’t have. Nazism is a type of fascism characterized by extreme far-right, authoritarian, ultranationalist political ideology. Zlenesky and his party, Servant of the People, hold a liberal, centrist, pro-European ideology[1][2].
Ideological proportions in the Ukrainian parliament
According to the results of the 2019 parliament election in Ukraine, the majority of seats (254/450) were taken by the presidential party, Servant of the People [3]. That means that the vast majority of Ukrainians support pro-European liberal centrism. The far-right party in Ukraine (Svoboda) took only one seat in the Ukrainian parliament. Only 2.16% of Ukrainians voted for it, which shows that far-right ideology is extremely unpopular in Ukraine.
Law
Ukraine has a law that condemns Nazism together with Communism[4]. It rejects using Nazi symbols, parties, flags, slogans, etc. There is no point in Nazi state to have such laws. This is another proof that Ukraine has no intention to be a Nazi state.
Missinformation about Ukraine
After the beginning of the Russian-Ukrianian war, there were a lot of articles in Western media about far-right battalions in Ukraine's army, it created a false impression that there are a lot of far-right groups in Ukraine, but in reality, it is just a so-called "False balance" effect. A good example of this phenomenon could be the way how Fox News exposed the climate change topic[5]
Russian fearmongering propaganda
To justify its illegal invasion of Ukraine, Russia tried to portray Ukraine as a Nazi state[6][7][8][9][10]
Summary
Every society has far-right individuals and they could be in armies also. But the state is a vertical hierarchy and the government is representing population - not vice-versa. The vast majority of Ukraine is against Nazism, and it is reflected in the way they vote, Ukrainians have chosen a center-liberal party and leader - it is a sign of the least extremist society. Ukraine isn't ideal, and it has problems, but Nazism is not one of them
